A scheduled IAEA inspection has completed its work at the IUEC storage facility

On November 8-9, 2017 the IAEA inspectors hold the physical inventory of nuclear materials (PIV) and verification of information on the facility design (DIV) at the IUEC storage facility.

During the inspection the IAEA inspectors verified the reporting and accounting documentation, conducted independent confirming measurements of nuclear material using devices of non-destructive analysis (NDA), conducted weighing selected casks, analyzed the results obtained from the video-recording systems installed in the IUEC storage facility, and also partially replaced the seals of the Agency's applied at the casks with nuclear materials.

At their final briefing of the IAEA inspectors reported that the inspection plan was fully implemented within the anticipated timeframe and without comment. The inspectors thanked the Russian party for full cooperation in the organization of the inspection at the high professional level.

The IAEA is the only in the world inspector of international nuclear safeguards and oversight of nuclear programs. The purpose of the inspection is to prevent the transfer of nuclear materials used in nuclear facilities for military purposes.
