December 04, 2015

The Nuclear Energy Information Center has been inaugurated in the Palace of Schoolchildren in Astana on December 3, 2015.

The information center is charged with nuclear energy awareness and promotion of technical education. Its target audience is schoolchildren, university students, teachers of secondary schools and universities, representatives of the state powers and non-governmental organizations, and mass media.

The Nuclear Energy Information Center has been created under the Memorandum signed in September 2014 by Rosatom and NAC Kazatomprom at the expense of Rosatom. The project operator is ANO Nuclear Sector Information Center. The center activities are non-profit; visits and all educational events are free of charge.

The Astana NEIC is outfitted with cutting edge multimedia equipment: unique video programs in Russian and Kazakh, Universal Radiometer simulator (everyone can measure own radioactivity), interactive mock-up of a nuclear power plant, touch-sensitive stand with special software, and educational banners.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Vladimir Shkolnik, President of Rosatom-International Network Alexander Merten, General Director of JSC IUEC Alexey Lebedev, Chief Operations and Nuclear Fuel Cycle Officer at NAC Kazatomprom Baurzhan Ibraev, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo of the Russian Federation Alexey Frolov, representatives of nuclear sector of Russia and Kazakhstan, as well as schoolchildren from Astana schools.

«Owing to such center the youth will understand what the power generation is and start linking their lives with technical trades, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan said. All these will facilitate development of science, technology and, respectively, enhancement of standards of living of the residents of the Republic of Kazakhstan».

Alexander Merten, President of Rosatom-International Network, stressed that «according to polls, in the cities where there are such information centers the youth choses technical trades more often. Their main goal is to tell people about advantages and safety of atomic energy in layman’s words. It is very important that in its activities the center will combine state-of-the-art and traditional educational events, clear and interesting to different groups of visitors, from small children to older generation».

«The information center gives the visitors extremely useful information, which will help select the career. This is the real chance to get the demanded trade and job. Therefore, the center is a chance for today’s youth to realize themselves in the science and technology, achieve self-fulfillment in the favorite occupation», Alexei Frolov, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo, noted.
